What Role Does Faith Play in My Counseling Approach
A Common Question
One of the most common questions I receive is:
“Do you offer Christian counseling?”
It’s also one of the most difficult to answer with a simple yes or no.
People are often asking several questions at once:
Will my faith be respected?
Can we talk about Scripture, prayer, and spirituality?
Will I be understood?
Will my values matter?
My short answer is:
Faith is welcome here, and so are honest questions.
A Safe Place for People
My goal is to create a safe place for people regardless of what they believe, what they have experienced, or where they find themselves on their spiritual journey.
I do not expect people to think like me, believe like me, or see the world the way I do in order to work together.
I believe we have much to learn from one another.
One of the greatest gifts available to us is perspective. When our perspective expands, new possibilities become visible. We begin to see choices where we previously saw none and pathways where we believed there was no way.
Why Jesus Matters to Me
Jesus has had the single greatest influence on my life.
When I study His life, I see someone who lived with remarkable freedom:
Freedom from fear
Freedom from approval-seeking
Freedom from hurry
Freedom from the need to prove Himself
Freedom from cultural expectations
I see someone deeply rooted in love, trust, courage, presence, purpose, and service.
His life continues to shape both my personal life and my work.
Change is inevitable. Transformation is participatory.
One of the things I admire most about the life of Jesus is not that He avoided hardship, suffering, disappointment, or loss. Rather, He consistently participated in those experiences with awareness, trust, courage, and purpose.
His life reminds me that while we cannot always choose what happens to us, we can choose how we respond, what we cultivate, and who we are becoming.
I believe healing often occurs when people engage in that same kind of intentional participation - becoming more aware, more honest, more present, and more aligned with what matters most. In that process, meaningful transformation is often revealed.
Because of that influence, my personal mission is simple:
Live Freely. Inspire Others.
How Faith Shows Up in Counseling
When faith is important to an individual, couple, or family, I am happy to incorporate those beliefs, values, practices, and perspectives into the counseling process.
At the same time, my primary role is counseling and coaching.
My focus is helping people grow in awareness, perspective, relationships, and meaningful change.
Much of the work involves:
Learning to slow down and reduce unnecessary pressure
Caring for the nervous system and creating space to respond rather than react
Becoming aware of thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that may no longer serve you
Challenging limiting narratives about yourself, others, and what is possible
Increasing self-awareness and personal responsibility
Strengthening relationships through honest communication and understanding
Expanding perspective and discovering new possibilities
Making intentional choices aligned with your values and what matters most
Faith can be a source of tremendous healing, hope, courage, and transformation.
It can also be an area where people carry confusion, pressure, disappointment, or pain.
Whatever your experience has been, there is room for honest conversation here.
My goal is not to tell people what they should believe.
My goal is to help people understand themselves more deeply and move toward greater freedom, health, connection, and alignment in their lives.
In my experience, lasting change is rarely forced. It emerges as people become more aware, care for themselves well, practice new ways of relating, and courageously engage with what matters most. When we participate in that kind of process, meaningful transformation often becomes possible.
What I Believe About Growth
I believe meaningful change is possible.
I believe people are capable of growth.
I believe awareness creates options.
I believe perspective creates possibility.
I believe healing requires patience, courage, practice, and support.
I believe growth often begins when we slow down enough to notice what is happening within us and around us.
And I believe faith, at its best, helps us move toward what is not yet fully seen.
I don’t expect people to agree with me on everything, and I don’t believe growth requires us to think exactly alike. What matters most is a willingness to be honest, curious, open, and engaged in the process.
At the foundation of my work is a simple belief:
God is good. People are capable of growth. Meaningful change is possible.
My hope is that every person who walks through my door experiences greater freedom, deeper awareness, healthier relationships, and a life more aligned with what matters most.
Whether faith is central to your life, something you are questioning, something that has wounded you, or something you have never considered much at all, you are welcome here.
